Acorn
Categories: Discipleship
ACORN is a simple yet powerful concept that can revitalise any church by encouraging people to listen to and act upon the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Before group meetings, participants follow the ACORN practice individually.
They:
Ask God 'who to speak to'
Call; Listen to whom they feel God has called them to contact;
Obey the call,
Respond by connecting with the individual, regardless of how unusual it may feel;
Notice how the Holy Spirit moves in the situation.
At the next group meeting, whether conducted in person or online, they will discuss their experiences from the previous week's ACORN practice. This sharing session naturally fosters group mentoring and discipleship, creating an enjoyable, inspiring atmosphere.
The concept also draws on the biblical metaphor in Matthew 13:31-32, illustrating the transformative potential of God's kingdom, likened to an acorn growing into a mighty oak where eagles nest.
Endorsed by the General Assembly, ACORN has led to thousands of meaningful and transformative conversations inspired by God across Scotland.
