The recently united parish of Uist and Barra, in the beautiful southern area of the Outer Hebrides, is seeking to call a full-time Minister of Word and Sacrament.

Uist and Barra Congregation was established in January 2025 as a union of the former congregations of Barra linked with South Uist and Benbecula linked with Carinish.

We are seeking a leader with vision and a sense of call, who is able to help establish a team ministry.  The minister will in due course be joined by 1FTE Ministries Development Staff (which could be split into more than one post) whose remit will be developed by the minister and the Kirk Session, with support from Presbytery.

Although not obliged to learn Gaelic, the minister should be sympathetic to the Hebridean environment and respectful and supportive of Gaelic culture and heritage.  The minister will be supported by an encouraging congregation and a dedicated team of volunteers.

We are a broad church, and we are at one in our desire to build and strengthen God’s work and Kingdom in the islands.  In this we work well with other local Catholic and Protestant churches with whom we have ready access to local schools, hospitals and care homes.  The minister will join us working for God in the community for the community.

The use of IT to support our congregation and further its outreach has become increasingly significant in our widespread islands parish.  The minister will be encouraged to help facilitate and guide with creativity and vision its further development and use.
